The Center Point powerlifting teams are riding high after a successful outing at the Wildcat Invitational in Carrizo Springs. The Pirates and Lady Pirates flexed their body muscles, bagging several medals and making their coach proud.

“This was the first chance for our boys to strut their stuff, and the second for the girls. They didn’t let us down,” beamed head coach Mario Laque.

Mauricio Gallegos stole the show for the Pirates, lifting a total of 1300 pounds across bench, squat, and deadlift. His Herculean effort in the 148-pound class, including a 510-lb squat, 300-lb bench, and a 490-lb deadlift, earned him the meet’s Best Lifter Award.

First-timer Jesse Segura also struck gold in the 114-pound weight category, lifting a total of 675 pounds. Silver medals went to Isaac Cervantes, who lifted a total of 1410 pounds, and Hector Cervantes, who lifted 930 pounds in the 132-pound category.

Other Pirates who gave their all but fell just short of the podium were Casey Vincent, JP Peralta, Gabe Aguirre, and Marcus DeLeon.

On the ladies’ side, Johanna Resendiz and Briana Camacho bagged second and third places in their respective weight divisions, lifting 635 and 550 pounds respectively. Maria Diaz and Avi Martinez secured fourth places, while Jocelin Casillas and Adriana Lombrana also put in strong performances.

“Slowly but surely, our kids are starting to see some success. Their numbers and confidence are on the rise. Our season motto is quality, not quantity,” said Laque.

The Center Point teams will next flex their muscles at Rocksprings on Saturday, Jan. 20.
