Filipino Weightlifter Ceniza Clinches Fifth in IWF 2023 World Championships
Cebuano weightlifting sensation John Febuar Ceniza made his mark at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) 2023 World Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, securing a commendable fifth place in the men’s 61-kilogram division.

Ceniza, a Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) silver medalist, showcased his strength by lifting a hefty 296 kilograms.
However, Fabin Li of China, the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist, lifted an impressive 308 kilograms and snatched the gold.
Italy’s Sergio Massidda and China’s Hongjie Ding bagged the silver and bronze medals by lifting 302 and 301 kilograms.
In the snatch event, Ceniza ranked eighth with a 131-kilogram lift, while Li, Massidda, and Hongjie took home the gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively.
Ceniza’s performance in the clean & jerk was noteworthy, lifting 165 kilograms. But, it was American Hampton Miller Morris who stole the show with a 168-kilogram lift, earning him the gold.
Li had to settle for silver with a 167-kilogram lift, while Malaysia’s Mohamad Aniq bagged the bronze.
Meanwhile, fellow Filipinos and gold medalists Elreen Ando and Hidilyn Diaz will compete in the women’s 59kg category on September 13.
Vanessa Sarno and Kristel Macrohon will also represent the Philippines in the Women’s 71kgs Group B category.
Ceniza’s performance at the IWF 2023 World Championships is a testament to his dedication and hard work. It makes him a source of pride for the Filipino strength sports community.
