If you’re looking for the raw energy and focused power of a gorilla in your workout, then this might be the supplement for you.

In this review, our fitness experts are going to look into the claimed benefits of this pre-workout and the other supplement facts to find out whether it is Gorilla Mode.

Read on if you want to find out more about this new highly hyped supplement.

What Is Gorilla Mode?

A hand holding a pre-workout product

From the same company that made the Gorilla Mind Rush nootropic supplement, Gorilla Mode is a pre-workout that claims to provide the maximum dosage of all the pre-workout ingredients that they think work.

Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout delivers on that promise and pound for pound, it packs far more of a punch even at half dose than most other pre-workouts on the market.

Following in the footsteps of the other products in the Gorilla range, they aim to be a market disrupter by offering a level of quality and quantity not seen before and doing so at a budget-friendly price.

Company head Mike Cernovich is a problematic figure, to say the least. He has in the past had ties to the alt-right and was a figurehead behind the spread of the ridiculous Pizzagate conspiracy theory.

His past attitude and comments on rape, feminism, and masculinity are all disgusting, but he has been treading a less political and more balanced path as of late.

Not that these objectionable things affect his ability to make a great nootropic or pre-workout, but all things considered, I would personally like to know these things before giving money to him or his company.

Supplement Facts for Gorilla Mode

As mentioned, it contains more of the pre-workout ingredients that matter, but what do these ingredients do?

Let’s look at each of them in a little more detail and how much you get in a full daily dose of two scoops.

L-Citrulline (9000 mg)

This ingredient has a two-fold effect and is found in almost every good pre-workout on the market.

L-citrulline is the most effective supplement at boost nitric oxide (NO) levels in the blood, and nitric oxide has an active role to play in cardiovascular health [1].

The second benefit has to do with a significantly increased muscle endurance and a reduction in soreness, meaning you can go harder, longer, and with more regularity [2].

I’m quite impressed with how generous the creators were with the amount of L-citrulline, which is more than any other pre-workouts in the market. I definitely had an insane performance at the gym with improved pumps, and increased muscle strength and endurance.

Creatine Monohydrate (5000 mg)

Creatine is the go-to ingredient when it comes to physical performance. Studies have shown that it can impact strength and muscle size and so if you’re looking for aserious pump, you shouldn’t be using a pre-workout with it [3].

The effect of the ingredient is owed to its ability to increase phosphocreatine stores in the body, which is used during intense exercise to produce ATP [4].

A daily dose of 3 to 5 g of creatine is said to be effective in maintaining creatine stores. Within just a month, I did notice a massive increase in strength as I was able to add more weights to my deadlifts and bench press.

You can read our other article if you're after a pre-workout without creatine.

GlycerPump (3000 mg)

Glycerol powder, when added to water, can help you hyper-hydrate your muscles by preventing the natural drop in osmolarity, which causes your kidneys to drain the excess water [5].

Hydration is one of the most important factors when it comes to endurance, with just a 2% loss in hydration, causing a 20% drop in performance which is coupled with glycerol’s studied improvement to aerobic and anaerobic exercise as a whole [6].

Betaine Anhydrous (2500 mg)

Betaine is another ingredient whose primary reason for inclusion in your scoop per day is to help improve hydration.

There are also a few studies that show it may reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease and helps to improve digestion [7] [8].

L-Tyrosine (1500 mg)

This one is for your mind more than your body, but the effects felt will help you increase your focus levels, energy, and mood.

The manufacturers claim it is the most bioavailable form of tyrosine, and it is an amino acid that enhances cognitive function by balancing the neurotransmitters in your brain [9] [10].

It certainly enhanced the mental effects of caffeine in this pre-workout, and I experienced more focus and increased concentration even under stressful situations.

Agmatine Sulfate (1000 mg)

This is another ingredient focused on improving the NO levels in your blood.

Agmatine has been shown in studies to be much more effective than arginine, which is used in many other pre-workout supplements [11]. It is also said to manipulate the body’s pain receptors, allowing you to power through a more intense workout [12].

Kanna (500 mg)

A mood enhancer and cognitive aid, kanna is included to increase the amount of serotonin available to the brain.

This results in an ingredient that can lower stress levels, improve focus, and elevate your overall mood [13]. Working out should make you feel good, and serotonin release is a big part of that.

After a few weeks, I had a noticeable mood lift throughout the day, which helped me focus better during and after workouts.

Caffeine Anhydrous (350 mg)

Unless you are caffeine-sensitive, there should be no question as to why it’s included in your pre-workout. Its effects include improving both brain and body function, as well as increasing the number of calories you can burn, which are well documented at this point [14] [15].

There is simply no other ingredient that can do a better or more precise job at getting you amped up and performing at your best.

A dose of 350 mg worked well to lift my energy levels and mood during exercise sessions without noticeable side effects even when combined with a morning cup of coffee.

N-Phenethynl Dimethylamine Citrate (350 mg)

Gorilla Mode, owing to the company’s past efforts in the nootropic field, focuses just as much on giving your mind what it needs per day, as it does to the body.

This is another ingredient that looks to enhance your mood, improve energy levels, and generally give you a better overall mental state of being [16].

Bioperine (10 mg)

Bioperine is a trademarked black pepper extract standardized to 95% piperine. But what does that mean? Black pepper extract works as an inhibitor to the enzymes that break down caffeine and noradrenaline in the body [17].

Effectively, it means that other ingredients in the pre-workout hit harder by increasing their absorption. And it may have helped to intensify the effects of each ingredient.

Huperzine-A (400 mcg)

As mentioned before, Gorilla Mode pre-workout helps you to work on your brain muscle as much as your body muscles. Huperzine is one of the most essential ingredients when it comes to brain health [18] [19].

It will help deliver your body the energy and focus to perform in the gym but also act to improve memory and cognitive function in the long run as well.

Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout works because it contains a high dose of products proven to work. Most pre-workouts are pixie dust containing some taurine, vitamin B12, and caffeine.

How Does Gorilla Mode Taste?

Gorilla Mode Product

Gorilla Mode comes in 10 flavor options.

But the original is Tiger’s Blood which is a mix of strawberry, watermelon, and coconut (which is what I prefer). It’s sweet and fruity and tastes like pina colada. Definitely refreshing.

And the next best flavor for me is a much smoother fruit punch mix of Mango and Peach which may be perfect for someone who likes tropical flavors.

Other user favorites are Peach Lemonade, Mojo Mojito, and Volcano Burst, so you should try those out if you get bored of one flavor.

Bearing in mind the high dose of quite serious ingredients, I was surprised at how good it tastes. No doubt that this should belong to the best tasting pre-workouts supplements.

Benefits

A man showing his both arm muscles

With a long list of active ingredients, Gorilla Mode is a pre-workout that claims to increase nitric oxide (NO) levels and intramuscular hydration in order to:

  • boost strength and endurance
  • increase energy levels
  • enhance focus and mental sharpness

After two weeks of using Gorilla Mode (I prefer the Tiger’s Blood flavor by the way), I can confidently say that it does what it claims to do.

Within just 30 minutes of taking the product, it gave me an insane energy boost during workouts that made it possible for me to train harder and more intensely.

Many users report higher energy, intense focus, and improved pumps during workouts which lasts for a few hours after a session.

It was also easier for me to increase my reps to more than 50% of my usual routine, which is a big leap even for me. And I was impressed at how my recovery time felt a little bit shorter per set.

Overall, I’m satisfied with how it helped me increase my energy levels, endurance, strength, and mental sharpness, which are the things I'm looking for in a pre-workout.

Side Effects

Since most pre-workouts like this one consist of high-dosed nootropics and other stimulants like caffeine and huperzine-A, some people may experience adverse effects from those ingredients.

This can include an increase in blood pressure, nausea, and headaches. Make sure to follow the recommended dosage of 2 scoops per day to avoid having these side effects.

But if it's your first time to take a pre-workout, or you're particularly sensitive to stimulants, just take a quarter to half dose in the beginning and observe how your body reacts.

Lastly, the manufacturer advises users to not combine Gorilla Mode with Gorilla Mode Energy, 2 AM, or Rauwolscine supplements.

Even with a relatively high caffeine content like most pre-workouts, I have not experienced any jitters, crashes, or tingling after almost 2 weeks of consistent use.

Most users report that they have not experienced problems with their sleep even after taking the product in the afternoon.

How Much Gorilla Mode Can You Take?

protein shake top view

The recommended dose for this pre-workout is two scoops a day.

New users are advised to take a half or even quarter dose when they first start to get a feel for what they need going over two scoops though is both discouraged and inadvisable.

Based on my experience, a single scoop falls short of the energy and motivation I need during workouts, especially when I had a poor night’s sleep.

Since I’m used to taking pre-workouts, I find a daily dosage of two scoops to work perfectly in improving my focus, power, and pumps.

How Well Does It Mix?

Given the long and potent ingredients list, you’d be forgiven for thinking Gorilla Mode would be hard to mix.

There is a certain level of trial and error working out the right amount of water for the viscosity and texture that you like, but other than that, any shaker should be able to handle it.

When I first tried the product, I had to add a little bit more water to dissolve the solids settling on the bottom of the shaker.

It’s probably because it’s a bit thicker than the lower quality pre-workouts available in the market.

Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Contains nitric oxide for insane pumps
  • Many positive comments about good endurance and energy boost
  • High dose of caffeine may help with mental focus and fat burning
  • Tastes good
Cons
  • Not suitable for people with caffeine sensitivity
  • Does not list calorie count
  • Can be dangerous when taken with other products with stimulants

Where Can You Buy Gorilla Mode

Individuals can buy a tub of Gorilla Mode pre-workout on the manufacturer’s official website.

But it is also available on Amazon.com for about the same price.

I like buying on the manufacturer’s official website to receive legit products at a discounted price.

Gorilla Mode Cost

With 10 available flavors to choose from, Gorilla Mode is priced at $49 per tub. But they also offer a 3-tub package with a discounted price of $137.

However, these are both exclusive of shipping fees and taxes.

Since I usually use one and a half to two scoops for a heavy workout, the price per serving comes at around $2 when I buy the discounted package.

It’s a bit pricey that other pre-workouts, but I can say that it’s totally reasonable based on the taste and results I got.

Shipping and Returns

Gorilla Mode can be shipped to anywhere in the world, but it might take up to 10 business days for customers outside the US.

They also offer a 30-day return and refund/exchange policy, subject to approval. However, the item must not be used and must still be in the original packaging to be considered.

I availed the 3-tub package and got it after 3 days from ordering on their website. It would be nice to have the shipping fee waived for bulk orders though. But overall, I’m quite satisfied with the shipping speed and process.

Pre-Workout Alternatives

4 Gauge

4gauge

4 Gauge is an all-natural pre-workout that aims to improve overall athletic performance with increased stamina and better pumps.

Like Gorilla Mode, it contains creatine and L-citrulline to boost nictric oxide levels.

But 4 Gauge goes beyond by using a low dose of caffeine and L-theanine combination for longer lasting mental energy.

It’s slightly cheaper than Gorilla Mode, and it gets even better because it’s vegan-friendly too.

Transparent Labs BULK

transparent labs bulk

Specifically formulated to support bulking, Transparent Labs BULK is a pre-workout supplement that contains scientifically proven ingredients like citrulline malate, beta-alanine, and BCAAs.

Unlike Gorilla Mode that uses creatine, it has the three ingredients mentioned plus a unique Testosterone Support Complex to support muscle growth.

It’s on the pricier side of pre-workouts, but its 100% transparent and vegan-friendly formula justifies the cost.

Cellucor C4 Original

C4 Original

Cellucor C4 Original is another pre-workout that contains creatine, beta-alanine, caffeine, and added vitamins to provide better strength and pumps, and faster recovery.

However, it has a relatively low creatine content (1 g) compared to Gorilla Mode (2.5 g) per scoop.

It also hides  some ingredients in a proprietary blend, which I’m never a fan of.

With about the same flavor options, a 60-serving bottle of Cellucor C4 will cost you the same with 40 servings of Gorilla Mode.

FAQs

Should you cycle off of Gorilla Mode?

As with any stimulant, in order to see the best effect for prolonged periods, you should cycle off of Gorilla Mode for 5-7 days in any given month. The manufacturers recommend replacing it with one of their nootropic stacks during this period.

Can you combine Gorilla Mode with the nootropic stacks offered by Gorilla Mind?

Gorilla Mode already contains its very own blend of cognitive enhancers, and so you shouldn’t need to. The manufacturers also state that a full dose per day should not be combined with a full dose of Gorilla Mind Rush.

That being said, it could be combined with Gorilla Mind Smooth, which can help reduce stimulant jitters for those sensitive to caffeine.

Is Gorilla Mode vegan and vegetarian friendly?

Gorilla Mode doesn’t contain any ingredients that set off the usual alarm bells, but neither is there any confirmation of it being vegetarian or vegan. The Gorilla Mind Rush capsules are made from gelatin, which is a little confusing as the namesake gorilla itself eats a mostly vegetarian diet.

Why doesn’t Gorilla Mode have some of the ingredients commonly found in other pre-workouts?

There are a few ingredients notably absent from the Gorilla Mode formulation compared to the usual pre-workout supplements, such as beta-alanine and leucine. This is due to Mike Cernovich’s research and that of his formulators into the benefit and side effects of these ingredients.

Beta-alanine doesn’t provide enough of a boost in performance to warrant the itchy skin that it causes. Leucine, while effective post your workout, is found to inhibit performance if it is taken before.

Is Gorilla Mode Worth It?

Just like Cernovich’s somewhat dated idea on masculinity, Gorilla Mode subscribes to the bigger-is-better mentality.

It packs a serious punch when compared to other pre-workouts on the market with a much higher daily dose of the ingredients that it thinks work.

Its efficacy is apparent, and most users report feeling a sharp rise in focus and power from the supplement. With such a full daily dose, you are getting a lot of bang for your buck.

The value per scoop is excellent compared to other pre-workouts on the market, especially if you decide that a half or even quarter dose is enough.

There is also the fact the company also produces and has extensive experience in the cognitive enhancement department with Gorilla Mind, which means the pre-workout also has a much stronger nootropic effect than most.

I think Gorilla Mode is worth trying. If you’re curious, you can gauge the effects for yourself.
