In the fast-paced world of the NFL, the line between natural talent and enhanced performance can be unclear.

J.J. Watt's impressive career as a Houston Texans defensive end showcased his dominance on the field, sparking speculation about potential steroid use due to his significant muscle growth.

To find out if there was any truth to the rumors, I spent a few weeks researching his career and changes in physique.

Let's explore JJ Watt's remarkable strength and build—does his success come from pure dedication, or is there more to it?

Quick Summary

  • J.J. Watt isn't on steroids but attributes his physical changes to his long NFL career as a defensive end.
  • His large breast tissue and extreme vascularity are a result of working out during his career as an NFL Player.
  • There has also been some suspicion about how quickly he was able to bulk up, but this could be explained by his intense performance, including totaling 101.0 sacks and 281 quarterback hits.
  • To bulk up like J.J. Watt, you must regularly work out, take some supplements, and also look for a healthy diet that boosts your body with the required nutrients.

Does JJ Watt Take Steroids?

There is no concrete evidence to suggest that J.J. Watt has taken steroids, although some speculations exist regarding his earlier career.

But making such calls might only prove that he hasn’t taken banned drugs in the last few years.

If he took drugs earlier in his career, then those wouldn’t show up anymore.

The bigger issue for J.J. Watt has been that some media outlets falsely claimed that he was arrested in downtown Houston.

They claimed that along with Total Nutrition supplements Watt was also caught with cocaine suitable for personal use.

While this was proven false, it added fuel to the fire [1].

Why Do People Believe JJ Watt Takes Steroids?

People believe JJ Watt takes steroids due to concerns about his rapid bulking process though there is an absence of common side effects like extreme vascularity and large breast tissue.

Here are the most common signs to look out for.

Extreme Vascularity

Men who regularly take anabolic drugs can end up with extreme vascularity where veins are constantly visible [2]. This is different from when you’re fully pumped up at the gym, so I had to examine some photos where JJ is relaxing.

I found a few from different stages of his pro career and couldn’t find any viable evidence.

Large Breast Tissue

This is something that many steroid users battle, and it can become very obvious. The medical term is gynecomastia, and it refers to soft and fatty tissue developing around the pecs, as outlined by Johns Hopkins Medicine research [3].

I couldn’t find any photos that showed this issue, but he might have been able to hide it under all the body protection.

Fast Bulking Process

This is the main reason for taking performance-enhancing drugs, and I am a little bit suspicious of how fast JJ was able to bulk up when he joined the NFL. According to some reports, he put on 60 pounds and gained more muscle definition.

That’s a lot of muscle mass in a short space of time.

JJ’s Stats And Accomplishments

  • Born: March 22, 1989
  • Height: 6’5”
  • Weight: 290 lbs

While he never made it to the Super Bowl, his wrecking-ball size and speed made him a successful pass rusher with great stats for quarterback hits, sacks, and forced fumbles [4].

What Would It Take To Bulk Up Like JJ?

To bulk up like JJ, you'll need to focus on a clean diet with healthy carbs and protein, along with a dedicated training regimen that includes at least 90 minutes of gym time five days a week, and consider incorporating safe and legal steroid alternatives to boost testosterone levels.

Diet & Supplements

It’s not just hard work at the gym that will beef you up like JJ. You’ll also need to focus on a clean diet of healthy carbs and protein [5].

You should also consider a bulking stack of legal steroids to speed up the process. These supplements use natural ingredients like minerals, herbs, and amino acids for men to boost testosterone production.

Tough Training

The truth is that you’ll have to head to the gym for at least 90 minutes a day, five days a week.

And if you keep that up for the next five years, you’ll start approaching the JJ look. Try to add our recommended safe and legal steroid substitutes for men to your diet and see how natural ingredients can trigger a boost in your testosterone levels.

Yes, J.J. Watt was tested for steroid use, and there is no evidence of a failed drug test.

That doesn’t mean he couldn’t evade it, but you have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He has also openly spoken about being in favor of stricter testing not just at the Super Bowl but even in the off-season, where it might become easier to hide the effects.
