J.J. Watt had a very successful career as a Houston Texans defensive end with some statistics that show how much of a wrecking ball he was.

Even though he wasn’t small as a college player, his muscle gain as a pro has led many people to speculate about the use of anabolic steroids.

But to find out if there was any truth to the rumors, I spent a few weeks researching his career and changes in physique.

Here’s what I found.

Quick Summary

  • J.J. Watt isn't on steroids, but attributes his physical changes to his long NFL career as a defensive end.
  • jj watt's large breast tissues, and extreme vascularity are a result of working out during his career as an NFL Player.
  • To bulk up like J.J Watt, you must regularly workout, take some supplements, and also look for a healthy diet that boosts your body with the required nutrients.

Does JJ Watt Take Steroids?

JJ has denied taking anabolic drugs and has called for more extensive steroid and HGH testing of NFL players.

But making such calls might only prove that he hasn’t taken banned drugs in the last few years.

If he took drugs earlier in his career, then those wouldn’t show up anymore.

The bigger issue for jj watt has been that some media outlets falsely claimed that he was arrested in downtown Houston.

They claimed that along with Total Nutrition supplements Watt was also caught with cocaine suitable for personal use.

While this was proven false, it added fuel to the fire [1].

Why Do People Believe jj watt Takes Steroids?

As a fitness coach, I have seen many athletes with obvious side effects from long-term steroid use.

Here are the most common ones to look out for.

Extreme Vascularity

Men who regularly take anabolic drugs can end up with extreme vascularity where veins are constantly visible [2]. This is different from when you’re fully pumped up at the gym, so I had to examine some photos where JJ is relaxing.

I found a few from different stages of his pro career and couldn’t find any viable evidence.

Large Breast Tissue

This is something that many steroid users battle, and it can become very obvious. The medical term is gynecomastia, and it refers to soft and fatty tissue developing around the pecs [3].

I couldn’t find any photos that showed this issue, but he might have been able to hide it under all the body protection.

Fast Bulking Process

This is the main reason for taking performance-enhancing drugs, and I am a little bit suspicious of how fast JJ was able to bulk up when he joined the NFL. According to some reports, he put on 60 pounds and gained more muscle definition.

That’s a lot of muscle mass in a short space of time.

JJ’s Stats And Accomplishments

  • Born: March 22, 1989
  • Height: 6’5”
  • Weight: 290 lbs

While he never made it to the Super Bowl, his wrecking-ball size and speed made him a successful pass rusher with great stats for quarterback hits, sacks, and forced fumbles [4].

What Would It Take To Bulk Up Like JJ?

You have to consider two key areas if you want to become as ripped as JJ.

Diet & Supplements

It’s not just hard work at the gym that will beef you up like JJ. You’ll also need to focus on a clean diet of healthy carbs and protein [5]. The carbs should help fuel your workouts with raw energy, and the protein will help repair and build up muscle tissue.

You should also consider a bulking stack of legal steroids to speed up the process. These supplements use natural ingredients like minerals, herbs, and amino acids for men to boost testosterone production and provide more strength and stamina.

It’s not a magic pill approach but should speed things up enough to get you to a ripped body significantly faster.

Tough Training

Even if you don’t have ambitions of becoming a football player in the pro league, the truth is that you’ll have to head to the gym for at least 90 minutes a day, five days a week. And if you keep that up for the next five years, you’ll start approaching the JJ  look.

“If you do the bare minimum, expect bare minimum results. You want to be great, work to be great. Nothing just happens”

Was JJ Watt Tested For Steroid Use?

Yes, J.J. Watt would have been tested for performance-enhancing drugs, and there is no evidence of a failed drug test.

That doesn’t mean he couldn’t evade it, but you have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He has also openly spoken about being in favor of stricter testing not just at the Super Bowl but even in the off-season, where it might become easier to hide the effects.

FAQs

Was JJ Watt Ever Banned for Using Anabolic Drugs?

No, J.J. Watt was never banned for using anabolic drugs. The NFL has strict drug testing rules that should have picked up the use of performance enhancers.

Does JJ Watt Have Health Issues Due to Anabolic Drugs?

No, J.J. Watt doesn’t have health issues due to anabolic drugs. He has maintained a very fit and healthy appearance and has no serious acne or kidney damage symptoms.

Final Verdict: Is J.J. Watt Natty?

After all the research I have done, I cannot make a call either way. He bulked up very quickly when he first joined the NFL but hasn’t shown other common symptoms of steroid use.

Achieving his muscle mass and fitness level is possible without reaching for anabolic drugs. With the right diet, exercise routine, and supplements, you should be able to achieve the same.

But don’t just rely on protein shakes. Try to add our recommended safe and legal steroid substitutes for men to your diet and see how natural ingredients can trigger a boost in your testosterone levels, strength, and endurance.

I’ve used it for many bulking phases where I noticed significantly higher energy levels and endurance than before.

It’s not a magic pill to turn you into The Hulk, but it should speed things up enough to get you to your goals much faster.
