Fat burning supplements are a hot topic in the health and fitness world right now, and I regularly encounter people that either love them or simply despise them. And I can completely understand why so many people think they are magic pills with no actual magic.

See, the problem is that as soon as you follow any health and fitness blogs or products on social media, you’ll be bombarded with countless advertisements that promise to give you the body you’ve always dreamed of without having to commit to a top quality workout routine and diet.

Snake oil is the term that comes to mind.

But always jumping to that conclusion is not always fair, because there are some nutritional supplements that actually work well.

We’ve looked into conventional fat burners in an article for men and another geared for women, but I also did some extensive research into some of the reportedly best nighttime fat burners. There were a lot of useless products as expected, but I did find some that had very positive reviews.

So I dug deeper, did some testing, and I have all the results for you here.

1. Editor's Choice: Lean PM

This was recommended to me by a colleague at the gym where I work, but before I went to test it, I had a look at the online Lean PM reviews.

In quite a few fitness forums and Facebook groups, I found a lot of people saying it worked well as a sleep aid, mainly due to the 5 mg or melatonin.

There were also positive comments about its increased fat burning ability. Combined with a healthy diet and workout routine, it does seem to help a lot of people shed some extra pounds. You can watch this video review:

  • Suppresses your appetite, so you don’t wake hungry

CONS

  • A higher dose of magnesium would be good

Personally, I found that it did help suppress my appetite, so I didn’t feel hungry while going for my morning run before breakfast. The only downside I found is that it doesn’t give you 100% of your daily magnesium needs, which would be a nice bonus.

2. Sheer Shred PM

Another product that promotes being an effective fat loss supplement is Sheer Shred, and again, the focus is on boosting your metabolism while you rest.

One of the ingredients that stood out for me was the kidney bean extract, which has shown to be effective at delaying digestion of carbs, which limits the number of calories you absorb.

A lot of online reviews highlighted that it didn’t just promote better sleep cycles, but also made people fall asleep faster.

  • Doesn’t hide behind a proprietary formula
  • Promotes better REM and deep sleep cycle through melatonin and lavender extract
  • Proven natural ingredients that can help with some bonus fat burning

CONS

  • A higher dose of melatonin would be better

Personally, I would have liked to have seen a slightly higher dose of melatonin, and I wouldn’t rate it as the best nighttime appetite suppressant. If that’s what you need, then option 1 above is the better choice.


White bean extract may be helpful for weight loss because the beans produce substances that interfere with an enzyme called amylase that is necessary for the breakdown of carbohydrates, which are one of the main sources of calories in many diets.

3. T6 Star6urn PM

This overnight fat burner from T6 was the first one I found with garcinia cambogia which has a great track record of working as an effective fat burner.

I personally found it worked pretty well as a sleep aid, mostly from the point of view that I got to sleep pretty fast.

I found quite a few athletes mentioned in forums that they thought it was the best nighttime recovery supplement, especially on high-intensity sports days.

  • There’s really no need to put fancy names on natural products

I’m not sure I would go that far, but the added magnesium does help with muscle relaxation, which can help with recovery. With all the good things to say, I did find it a bit annoying that the company tries to market simple and natural ingredients under fancy names like KSM-66 and InnoSlim. Just keep it honest.


4. Naturewise Nighttime Slim

Naturewise is my next recommended nighttime weight loss pill, which does balance the sleep aid and fat burning ability quite well.

While I wasn’t able to prove or measure it, the company claims that it will help you burn about 116 kcal while sleeping.

From the reviews I looked into, there were two common highlights. First, many people said they wouldn’t wake up hungry, which helped them increase their fasting periods that little bit more.

Secondly, they didn’t tend to get that hot feeling that some other products can cause. The only real downside is that the company hides behind a proprietary blend, so you don’t really know how much of each ingredient you’re getting.


5. Havasu Night Time Weight Loss Pills

Havasu was a company that I wasn’t really familiar with, so I decided to do some extra research and talk to a dietician about them. It turns out, they are actually a very reputable maker of supplements.

This one is actually rather simple when it comes to the ingredients, but the company does keep the exact amounts a secret.

I tried it for 2 weeks and would agree with many online reviews that it does help with sleeping, even if there is noise around your home.

  • You only need to take one pill

CONS

  • Another brand that has a proprietary blend

While I never really get cravings for snacks, quite a few comments mentioned that it does seem to suppress their appetite.


6. Modern Man PM Fat Burner

As the name suggests, this is one of those supplements that is specifically designed for men. This means the dosage is higher than what women need, but for men, it will contain everything important in the right quantity.

Personally, I didn’t find that taking the fat burner before bedtime made me get to sleep quicker, but I did find that I had a more relaxing night feeling more recovered in the morning. Some people said they used sleep monitoring apps and that they did measure a better cycle between REM and deep sleep.

PROS

  • Specifically designed for men to boost testosterone
  • Contains ashwagandha which helps with muscle recovery
  • No outrageous claims of massive weight loss
  • Claims to reduce the stress hormone cortisol

CONS

  • Doesn’t seem to work as well for getting you to sleep

A few reviewers also pointed out that it worked well to reduce stress levels after a busy day at work. Overall, a pretty good option.


7. RevBurn

So, we’ve covered a fat loss product designed for men, now it’s time to list one for women, and that’s exactly what RevBurn has done.

The dosage of the active ingredients will be lower, and the ingredients were chosen as they work best for women.

One thing I saw in a lot of the reviews is that many people said it worked well to suppress appetite. It also contains natural ingredients that improve sleep cycles and relaxation. It also boosts your metabolism to maximize the fat burning effects.

  • Many positive comments about appetite suppression
  • Promotes deep sleep
  • Makes a good combination with the company’s day time fat burner

CONS

  • Proprietary blend hides the exact ingredient amounts

Some users reported to have headaches when waking up after taking this supplement. Try and see it for yourself.

Night Burn is the last product on my top recommendations list, and it is one of the more popular options available.

Many users report that it works pretty well as a sleep aid to get a more relaxed and restful sleep.

It also seems to work best when taken during a fasting period, so try to not eat too late in the evening to get the best results. You can also save some money by ordering the bulk container.

The obvious benefit of these supplements is that they aim to help you lose some weight while you rest. But there are a few other benefits that you can experience.

1. Promote Better Sleep Cycles

All of the above products work as a sleep aid in that they will help you fall asleep faster and get into a better and more consistent cycle. Whether you have a lack of sleep due to stress levels or noise at home, this is one of the top reasons to consider taking them. (1)

2. Don’t Wake Up Hungry

Some of these supplements will work quite well to regulate your blood sugar and keep you feeling full for longer. You’ll avoid food cravings and the need for a huge breakfast.

3. Cortisol Reduction

Cortisol is a hormone that is directly linked to stress levels. (2) If you have a busy personal and professional life, then cortisol can interfere with your sleep. Any reduction will help you feel more rested.

4. Thermogenic Effects

One way to lose weight without exercising is through thermogenic, metabolic effects. Essentially, they raise your body temperature slightly, and this is achieved by burning more energy.

How Do Thermogenic Fat Burners Work?

Thermogenic fat burners work by slightly raising your core body temperature. In order to do this, your body has to increase its metabolic rate, and that means burning more energy.

Now, if you have loaded up on sugar and carbs, then your blood glucose will be lowered first.

But if you take these supplements before exercising or while on a limited calorie diet, then your body will have to resort to stored body fat as a source of energy. 

Do Night Time Fat Burners Work?

Yes, night time fat burners can work, as long as they are taken as part of a balanced diet with plenty of exercise. They are not a magic pill that will allow you to snooze away unwanted fat, and if you come across such claims in advertising, then I suggest you keep well clear of it.

There are a lot of crap snake oil products out there, but the ones listed in the above nighttime fat burner reviews do work reasonably well. If you want to burn away some extra calories and melt away some love handles, then you can get to your goals quicker by taking them regularly.

Do Nighttime Fat Burners Have Side Effects?

No, for the most part, nighttime fat burners don’t have any side effects, unless you have some sort of allergies to the ingredients or you take too large a dose.

Unlike the daytime equivalents that are reliant on stimulants like caffeine from green tea extract, these types will actually have the exact opposite effect. They will make you slightly sleepy, so just keep that in mind.
