Choosing the best strategy for managing your diabetes surely isn't easy. There are many obvious medical dependencies that people with diabetes have, but at the same time, they might be able to achieve healthy blood sugar levels through dietary supplements as well.

One of the supplements I make sure all my diabetic clients are taking is a daily multivitamin that has the right ingredients to support insulin sensitivity and sugar absorption. It has done wonders so far.

However, diabetics shouldn’t rush to buy just any vitamins and minerals as not all of them have the right combination of nutrients you’ll need.

With the help of a nutritionist, we have been able to create a list of multivitamin supplements that you should focus on.

Our Top Multivitamin For Diabetics

1 - Future Kind + Vegan Multivitamins (Editor's Choice)

future kind multivitamin

Our top multivitamin for diabetics is this one from Future Kind+, which is also a great vegan multivitamin. And when I say “our”, it means the entire Total Shape team, our dietitian included.

It has 400mcg of Vitamin B12, which is known to support healthy nerve and heart function. B12 deficiency is common in people with diabetes, which often leads to an uncomfortable, sometimes painful tingly sensation on the hands and feet.

Having a clean and potent multivitamin may help alleviate these symptoms and improve overall cardiovascular and nerve health.

Don’t Ignore The Minerals

It happens too often that people just focus on vitamins, but minerals often play an equally important role, especially when it comes to insulin sensitivity.

During our research, we did find that the majority of multivitamin supplements also contained minerals like chromium, zinc, magnesium, and calcium.

Always check the label for these nutrients to get the best results.

Be Careful With Hidden Ingredients

If you stick with tablet or capsule type supplements, then you shouldn’t really encounter problematic ingredients. But during our research, we did come across a few powder supplements that also contained sugar and artificial sweeteners.

Make sure you avoid those altogether.

Get Your Intake Timing Right

Some of the above supplements come as a once a day capsule, while others may require two or more. From a timing perspective, I generally advise taking them at the same time every day, and you can basically choose which meal you take them with.

The time of day at which a person takes a supplement will rarely make a difference, except in reducing the risk of some rare adverse effects of specific B vitamins.

Which vitamins raise blood sugar levels?

Some studies suggest that vitamin B3 might raise blood sugar levels, which could be a problem for diabetics. If you see a supplement that contains B3, then make sure you check with your doctor before taking it.

What is a good vitamin for type 2 diabetes?

A good vitamin for type 2 diabetes is vitamin D. Studies have shown that it may be linked to both insulin production and effectiveness, which could help balance glucose levels.
