As a personal fitness coach, I spend a lot of time researching different protein supplements for myself and my clients. That research has included plant protein sources for more diversity.

After some detailed testing with clients, published studies, and endless chats with our resident dietitian, I’ve come to know a plant-based protein from one of the most known vegan brands today.

This protein powder review will reveal all you need to know about Orgain Plant-Based Protein Powder.

What Is Orgain Organic Protein Powder?

Orgain Organic Protein Powder

Orgain Brown Rice Protein Supplement is a vegan protein powder that is high in plant-based protein but is low in calories.

It doesn't rely on artificial coloring or flavors, and the powder is gluten-free, GMO-free, soy-free, all-vegan, and USDA organic.

This product is labeled as Orgain's bestseller, and it's the flagship that the rest of the company is built around.

It perfectly embodies their company ethic and dedication to healthy nutrition attained through clean, no-nonsense ingredients.

It's one of the best vegan protein powders on the market, and users claim it has a great taste and substantial nutrients to improve protein intake.

"The power of clean nutrition stayed with me as I entered my medical career. As I treated patients, I was consumed by the idea that I could help millions more people a day by bringing a healthier, organic nutrition shake to the market. So I took a leap of faith, quit my medical practice and started Orgain."

- Dr. Andrew Abraham, Founder

What To Consider Before Buying An Organic Protein Powder

Woman holding a credit card buying

If you're looking to make an organic plant-based protein powder, then we're going to assume that your primary concern is clean and healthy living.

This means you need to be looking for products that stay away from artificial colors and flavors and instead source their nutrition from whole food sources.

While you might not be vegan yourself, products that identify as vegan and cater to the plant based community typically focus on the same ideals that the organic community does.

Don't assume all vegan products are healthy, (some still use a lot of fillers, sugars, and artificial nonsense) but it's a great place to start.

Pros

The best thing about this Orgain Plant Based Protein Powder is the high quality of the ingredients used, such as the brown rice.

When held up side by side with the ingredients lists of other products on the market, it stands head and shoulders above the rest in what it chooses to use, and the nutritional profile this gives it.

A focus on clean and healthy ingredients isn't just a marketing gimmick; they actually believe in it.

"I love Orgain. Their mission and dedication to a wholesome product is admirable. I believe in what they are doing and am grateful they've set a new standard for protein powders."

- Ivy Carnegie (@PrettyBalanced), Lifestyle Influencer

When we compared all the major protein powders, we found that Orgain Brown Rice Protein Powder inspires a lot of loyalty and positive feedback from its users.

One of the main things that our testers seem to love about this brown rice protein product (and I have to agree) is the taste! They have a fantastic array of flavors, each more delicious than the last.

It provides the nutrition and energy you need and can be used as a workout aid as well as a meal replacement.

Additionally, it’s also one of our recommended soy-free proteins, so if you’re sensitive to soy, this might be a suitable option to your diet and workout regimen.

Cons

One of the chief complaints about Orgain Plant Based Protein Powder is that there can be some side effects.

The guar gum, acacia gum, and erythritol used as the creamer have been known to cause bloating and nausea in some users who have a sensitive stomach.

Similar to the issues faced by many taking whey protein supplements, it's important to introduce yourself to the product slowly to see if it's right for you.

Pros
  • Vegan-friendly formula with 21 grams of plant protein
  • Easy, transportable, pre-portioned packets available
  • No added sugars or artificial ingredients
Cons
  • Many users report severe stomach cramps and bloating

It will vary slightly based on the flavor you choose, but the basic nutritional profile is as follows.

The product relies on a blend of pea, brown rice, and chia seeds as its protein intake source.

It meets the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) organic label requirements and is free of any synthetic additives [1].

  • 0 milligrams of Cholesterol
  • 200 milligrams of Sodium

  • 15 grams of various Carbohydrates
  • 21 grams of protein

Taste

It's true that a lot of protein powders leave a horrible taste in the mouth, quite literally. Orgain Plant Protein is different in that it genuinely tastes terrific.

The wide variety of different natural flavors available and the quality of each means that it's easy to change it up month after month to keep it exciting or find the favorite for your healthy protein fix.

Here are just a few of the most popular flavors available.

  • Creamy Chocolate Fudge
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup
  • Peanut Butter
  • Iced Matcha Tea
  • Natural Unsweetened
  • Vanilla Almond
  • Cookies And Cream
  • Vanilla Bean

Price to Value Ratio

Orgain Protein Powder is excellent value for money when compared to other protein powders on the market. It’s a vegan protein that works out significantly cheaper if you work it out on a per serving basis, even more so if you factor in savings made by buying bulk.

They also offer single-serving sachets for those that would prefer the convenience or would like to try out a new flavor without committing to the whole tub.

Is Orgain Organic Good for Weight Loss?

Orgain is good for weight loss. It's an excellent choice for those looking to use a protein shake as a meal replacement for better weight management.

The super clean and nutritious plant-based protein powder is ideal as a healthy shake choice that will help you cut back on calories.

Low in fats and sugars and high in protein can help you feel fuller for longer and burn some extra fat, according to the Journal of Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome [2].

Orgain Reviews

The reviews on Amazon are overwhelmingly positive, with over 75% being four stars or above.

One customer who claims to be an amateur athlete says that Orgain Plant Based Protein is their go-to protein powder and that the great tasting product helped them drop 60 pounds and keep it off.

There are also some less positive but helpful reviews with the majority claiming that the product gave them stomach cramps or nausea.

As mentioned above, some of the ingredients can cause this as a possible side effect, and new users are recommended to stick to the advised dosage and ease themselves in slowly.

Testimonials

"I love this protein powder but do not care for the French Vanilla flavor. The vanilla and chocolate are tasty but the French just has a taste I don't like. Personal preference, I guess. Otherwise? I highly recommend this organic protein." - KMultari, United States

"Love this product. I recently had heart surgery and I have a shake everyday, just use ice a small amount of water 2 scoops of powder and what ever berries you want strawberries are excellent fresh or frozen. Protein is so healthy for everyone" - Ruth, United States

"Finally - a protein powder that's not soy or milk based! Tasty. Easy to use. The only downside is the sweetener, but still very usable. Will continue to buy." - Mary, United States

Protein Powder Alternatives

We compared Orgain Organic to three leading protein powders. Here’s what we learned.

Transparent Labs Organic Vegan Protein Powder

Transparent Labs offers a vegan protein powder consisting of 24 grams of rice and pea protein mix. Additionally, there are no GMOs, preservatives, or gluten. After analyzing the ingredient label, I see why this has become one of the most popular protein powders.

Even when mixed with water, our test group was impressed with the smooth, easy-to-dissolve texture. Many users appreciated that it was completely free of dairy.

I ordered both the French vanilla and chocolate flavors for testing, and both were tasty. Orgain Organics offers more than Transparent Labs with flavors like cookies and cream, iced coffee, and unsweetened.

Ladder Plant Protein Powder

Ladder offers plant protein to help build lean muscle and aid recovery. Ladder is NSF certified for Sport, ensuring that it meets the highest quality standards.

Ladder’s protein powder comes in standard vanilla and chocolate flavors that taste great and mix smoothly without clumping. Our test group agrees that the chocolate flavor is especially noteworthy, with balanced bitterness and sweetness, resembling high-quality dark chocolate.

Ladder contains 21 grams of pea protein compared to Orgain Organic’s 21 grams of brown rice protein. I liked the addition of vegan branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), and some in our test group experienced noticeable growth in lean muscle.

I tested Ladder Plant Protein with our volunteers and experienced improved post-workout muscle soreness.

Ladder contains just 4 grams for carb-conscious users compared to 25 grams in Orgain Organic.

Future Kind Vegan Protein Powder

Well-known supplement company Future Kind offers a protein powder for users on a plant-based diet utilizing 20 grams of easy-to-absorb pea protein. The amount is comparable to Orgain Organic’s 21 grams of brown rice protein, but Future Kind contains fewer carbs and no fat.

We found the vanilla flavor tasty, but I also went beyond traditional mixing with water and tried unsweetened almond milk. The result was a deliciously smooth post-workout protein shake. There are only traces of carbs and no fat, making it a dieting dream.

Along with its muscle recovery benefits, our test group appreciated that Future Kind is committed to environmental sustainability, utilizing eco-friendly packaging and purchasing carbon offsets with minimal impact.

Can You Mix It With Food And Beverages?

I've found Orgain Organic Protein Powder to be a versatile addition to my diet. It blends seamlessly into my morning smoothies, adding a rich, creamy texture without overpowering the taste of fresh fruits.

It's also a great choice for baking. I've experimented by adding it to banana bread and pancakes, boosting their protein content without compromising flavor.

And I've also mixed it with my morning green smoothie. But that's where I did experience some slight bloating.

Our Verdict on Orgain Organic Protein Powder

Unfortunately, some of our testers stated that they were unhappy with the results due to the side effects they experienced; these mixed reviews were mostly due to stomach issues.

There is a similar product that I always recommend to my clients, which is thevegan protein powder by Transparent Labs.

It's slightly more expensive than Orgain, but it has more grams of protein and fewer side effects.

If you’re on a budget, Orgain may be for you, but be cautious due to the odd chance you may experience side effects.
