Doug "Censor" Martin, aka FaZe Censor, is one of the most followed gamers globally, and I became aware of him after he branched out into the fitness world.

His social media platforms are not just about Call of Duty anymore, but much more about fitness and getting ripped. And that’s why people have been accusing him of cheating with steroids and "running gear."

As a personal trainer, I see many guys take shortcuts like that, but there are always signs that come with steroid use.

So, I spent a couple of weeks researching Censor by looking at hundreds of photos and videos to see if I could find some real evidence that he took some juice.

Does FaZe Censor Take Steroids?

Based on my professional experience as a trainer, assessing numerous clients and athletes, it seems highly unlikely that Doug Censor has taken steroids. Having followed his career and seen his consistent denials of performance enhancer use, his physique changes appear to align more with natural progression.

In one post from 2019 on Twitter, he even showed off some photos from when he was a skinny 17-year-old compared to what he looks like today.

There's a definite bulking process going on there, but I wouldn’t say that he achieved massive bodybuilder proportions.

So let's take a closer look at some key areas of his physique.

Why Do People Believe Doug Censor Took Steroids?

shirtless man

In my years of coaching, I've seen how easily misconceptions can arise, especially in cases like Doug Censor's, where significant physical transformation occurs. Despite the speculation, my analysis of his public appearances and statements leads me to believe there's no concrete evidence of steroid use.

As an absolute unit and a prominent Call of Duty player, his physique can be attributed to seven years of dedicated training and natural means. I went through endless YouTube video posts to better understand how Doug Censor changed his appearance over time. Here’s what tell-tale signs I looked for:

Extreme Vascularity

All bodybuilders will have pumping veins when lifting weights. According to the study found on the PubMed website, steroid users can often have very visible veins all over their bodies, even when relaxing [1].

Now, because Doug Censor usually wears a tank top or is even shirtless on YouTube, it was easy to check for constantly pumped-up veins. This isn't an issue he's dealing with, from what I can tell.

His veins pop up only while or after training. He is maybe taking supplements for pump and vascularity and that's why he looks so good on photos and videos.

Large Breast Tissue

It's important to say that this is not the same as having large pecs. According to an article from the Hopkins Medicine website, steroid users can encounter gynecomastia, which is soft and fatty tissue around the chest [2].

While there is medication to deal with this, it's easy to spot when it happens, and I couldn't find any photos of Doug Censor with a flabby chest.

Fast Bulking Process

And finally, if you see someone who becomes ripped or suddenly looks like The Hulk in a few months, then it's a good sign that they have taken steroids [3].

According to Doug and the photos he has shared about his physique over time, it took him seven years to bulk up and get as toned as he is today.

That doesn't seem like a fast process to me, and because he's not built like Hulk Hogan, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that he's running gear.

“If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.”

What Would It Take To Bulk Up Like Doug Censor?

plate with apple, tape measure, spoon and fork, and stack of capsules

Drawing from my experience in helping clients bulk up naturally, I can say that achieving a physique like Doug Censor's requires a dedicated focus on both diet and rigorous training. It's a challenging yet achievable goal with the right guidance and commitment.

Diet & Supplements

No matter how much lifting you do at the gym, it will all be for nothing if you don't have the right diet. What you'll need to get ripped and toned is a lot more healthy carbs and protein [4].

The carbs should provide enough energy for the workouts, and the protein helps with recovery and muscle building. You can improve muscle recovery by adding whey protein to your diet.

But you can also speed things up a bit naturally and legally with a bulking stack. This includes supplements with natural ingredients that aim to boost your testosterone production and give you more endurance during training.

Tough Training

It'll take a lot of hard work at the gym to get that toned. Aim for 90-minute workouts five days a week and then stick with that religiously for five years.

Doug claims he was working on his body for seven years, which would not be unusual. But considering that he's not the biggest guy, I would say that it's possible to do in four or five years.

Was Doug Censor Tested For Steroid Use?

In my professional capacity, I've come to understand the protocols for drug testing in various sports and fitness domains. To my knowledge, Doug Censor hasn't undergone such testing, as it's not typically required outside of professional sporting events.

The main reason is that he doesn't take part in professional or amateur sporting events where such testing is usually a requirement.
