When Chrissy Teigen posted a picture of herself dancing in a pair of jeans shorts before heading to catch her husband, John Legend, performing, it set many tongues wagging about her weight loss.

According to some of her fans, she had lost considerable weight compared to how fluffy her face looked a few months prior.

So, I decided to examine her body transformation with my dietician to find out how she did it and possibly motivate some of my clients.

Here’s what we discovered about Chrissy Teigen weight loss.

How Did Chrissy Teigen Lose Weight

Chrissy Teigen lost weight by being physically active and adopting a stress-free lifestyle.

Also, the fact that she quit drinking may have contributed to her transformation.

We found that although she ultimately had a procedure to remove fat from parts of her face, the comedian, who is married to John Legend, clapped back at one follower who accused her of having constant liposuction.

Since transitioning to a new life as a mum of two children, she has been candid about adopting healthy ways of living that don't involve restrictive dieting.

For a healthy physique and to shed pounds, Chrissy Teigen incorporates a full body workout into her fitness routine.

She lost weight by doing exercises that target multiple muscle groups simultaneously, like squats and lunges.

This holistic approach helped her achieve her desired body and improved her overall strength and fitness level.

Let's look at some of the methods she has used to slim down.

How Did She Change Her Diet

Chrissy Teigen changed her low-carb dieting approach for fat loss and is now more liberal with what she eats. She has also disclosed that she’s no longer drinking alcohol.

Chrissy used to prefer a low-carb diet back when she wanted to maintain a swimsuit model weight. But a lot has changed since being a mum.

In an interview with People magazine, the former model admitted experiencing troubles with the diet culture.

Her experience with restrictive dieting is not new in nutrition.

Experts in a study from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) assert that restrictive dieting can be uncomfortable, let alone unsustainable, in the long run, and can lead to weight gain when one goes off [1].

The former model has instead adopted food that she’s more comfortable with.

Feel Good Foods

We found that one of her liberal approaches concerning her diet is eating what makes her feel good. Although she does not specify exactly which food makes her feel good, we can make an educated assumption.

Below are some of the foods that, according to a study from NLM, are associated with reduced depression [2].

They include:

  • Fruits
  • Fresh vegetables
  • Fish
  • Nuts
  • Occasional red meat
  • Moderate consumption of eggs and dairy products

Additional research from NLM shows that the Mediterranean diet can be linked to better mental health [3].

Quitting Alcohol

Chrissy’s sobriety journey could have cost her a few pounds. The truth is, one can look like a new person after a full body reset from alcohol intoxication.

We saw that one of her fan noticed this and commented that she (Chrissy) looked like she had lost so much weight but was much healthier than ever.

The Instagram commenter is not wrong. Alcohol consumption may lead to weight gain and a fluffy or bloated face.

This is perhaps why Chrissy's face appeared fluffy and bloated years back. She would later commit to sobriety and announce it in late 2020 via Instagram story.

“I prob won't be excited til a larger milestone, like at leasssst 5 years. I have no idea what I'm doing, honestly, but I do know a few things: I now have endless energy, way less anxiety (no more benzos!), and I am *happier* and more present than ever. It's pretty cool."

Now, although she would later have a procedure done to get rid of fat on her face, giving up alcohol could have helped her shed some pounds both before the procedure and after.

How Does Chrissy Teigen Stay Fit?

Chrissy Teigen stays fit by being physically active, which involves playing with her kids, going to the park or an aquarium, and doing activities she enjoys.

From her interviews, we can also derive that she occasionally works out, although not as frequently as her husband, John Legend.

Among the new things she has adopted in her daily routine are meditating and sound bathing, which keeps her mentally fit.

A sound bath can be a meditative and therapeutic experience during which you lie down and listen to sounds like singing bowls.

Did She Have Surgery?

Yes, we found that Chrissy Teigen had cheek reduction surgery or buccal fat removal, having fat removed from her cheeks to create a contoured face.

In fact, she’s had a few body improvement surgeries which are not necessarily related to weight loss. For instance, the removal of breast implants and eyebrow transplants.

However, when fans confronted her about having constant liposuction, she appeared to deny the claims.

Besides her face fat removal surgery, we did not find evidence proving she had any additional procedure related to weight loss.

And my dietician confirmed that her weight loss is possible with an active lifestyle and a good diet.

Chrissy’s Supplements

Chrissy Teigen has not publicly said whether she has used supplements to lose pounds.

However, it's reasonable to say that she may have used certain multivitamins and a fat-burning supplement as part of her weight loss journey.

Here are some supplements she might have used:

  1. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Often used for their anti-inflammatory properties and benefits to skin and heart health.
  2. Protein Powders: Useful for muscle maintenance and recovery, especially if she engages in regular exercise.
  3. Probiotics: For gut health, which is often a focus in wellness circles.
  4. Collagen Supplements: Popular for skin health and often used in beauty and wellness routines.
  5. Vitamin D and Calcium: For bone health, especially important for women.
  6. B-Complex Vitamins: For energy metabolism and overall well-being.


Is Chrissy Teigen a Vegetarian?

Chrissy Teigen is not a vegetarian. She has a line of plant-based cleaning products such as hand cream, sanitizer, hand soap, detergent, and hand cleaner, which is where the confusion probably stems from.

How Much Weight Did Chrissy Teigen Gain During Pregnancy?

Chrissy Teigen gained 20 pounds after her second pregnancy. She has admitted that she gained so much weight at the time because she simply loves food [11].
