Who is Joe Rogan?
It’s a bit difficult to pin down what Joe Rogan is most famous for because his career has spanned so many different forms of entertainment. One thing is for sure though — whether you love him or hate him, he is an entertainer.
His career started as a comedian in the 90s, but it wasn’t until becoming the host of Fear Factor in 2001 that he really made it big.
After that, he was also involved with UFC where he was a commentator for the big pay-per-view fights.
He is incredibly outspoken and doesn’t hold back when it comes to matters of politics, religion and any other hot topic in society.
There’s obviously a lot of training involved to achieve that, but on this page, I want to focus more on Joe Rogan's supplements.
What Supplements Does Joe Rogan Take?
While Joe’s TV presence has changed over the years, one of his most successful projects has been his podcast.
Practically all topics are covered, but what I have found most interesting is the interviews he does with health experts. From nutritionists and dieticians to medical doctors and psychologists, he has covered a huge range of topics.
And through this, he has come up with a pretty large supplement cupboard that goes well beyond vitamins and minerals and focuses on both mental and athletic performance.
Let’s take a closer look at the stuff he has mentioned on the podcast and social media.
1. Pure Encapsulations Athletic Pure Pack Multivitamins
Where do you start with Encapsulations Athletic Pure Pack?
The easiest thing is probably just to check out the nutritional label, rather than listing everything out here.
If you look at the figures for vitamins and minerals, you’ll notice that practically all of them are provided in amounts higher than your daily value.
What you need to understand is that the multivitamin Pure Encapsulations are essentially 9 capsules per pack, and each pack is designed for one day’s intake, including coenzyme q10, omega-3, and creatine.
That’s quite a few pills to swallow, but it provides everything an athlete needs. You don’t have to take them all in one go, but it’s best to swallow them just before you have a meal.
2. Carlson’s Super Omega-3 Fish Oil
This is probably one of the simplest products on this list, and its main aim is to give you all the omega-3s you need for the day.
These fatty acids are known to improve heart and joint health and should be part of every diet.
The company that makes them has carved out a small niche for people who really want the best quality natural fish oil. Their product description makes a big deal out of the fact that all the fish are wild caught rather than farmed.
It’s best taken before meals, and you can take anywhere from 1 to 5 of these per day.
3. Thorne Research Vitamin D3
It might not be helpful as an athletic performance booster, but one of the most common nutritional deficiencies is Vitamin D.
There are very few foods that contain it and the majority is produced in your body’s skin cells during sun exposure.
However, with people aware of the risks from excessive UV rays, it is becoming increasingly common to be deficient.
This can lead to diseases like rickets, so the healthy decision to make is to take supplements.
You will only need one of these per day as recommended by the makers, with evening times being a good option.
4. 365 Glucosamine Chondroitin & MSM
Joe Rogan has been UFC-style fighting for many decades now, and that kind of sport along with bodybuilding has its impacts on joints.
Whether it’s the heavy weights while doing squats and deadlifts, or the impact from the kick of another fighter, his joints are likely to be battered and bruised on a constant basis.
Despite that, he hasn’t reported having major issues with his joints, and a lot of that can be down to taking glucosamine and chondroitin supplements.
The ingredients in these capsules are specifically chosen to maximize recovery of cartilage and the fluid around joints.
The product you see in some of his older tweets is now rebranded by Onnit, but it’s still a good option for anyone that lifts heavy weights.
5. Onnit Spirulina & Chlorella
This is a product that has become increasingly popular, especially as a source of a wide range of amino acids for vegetarians and vegans.
Sourced from algae that grow on lakes, this is not a new discovery. The algae have been harvested by ancient South American tribes for millennia and used for their health benefits.
It’s also an excellent source of a wide range of vitamins in a completely natural rather than synthetic form.
While it comes in capsules, you can easily open them and sprinkle the powder on your food or mix it with your smoothies.
6. Onnit Alpha Brain Instant
You might be wondering why there are so many Onnit products on Joe’s list. The main reason is probably that he’s a major shareholder in the company, but despite that, the company is still known for great products.
Alpha Brain is a very unique formula of ingredients like vinpocetine, huperzine A, L-theanine, and Bacopa Monnieri, which Onnit claims to have clinically tested to boost mental stamina, memory and focus.
These Alpha Brain capsules are best taken first thing in the morning to prepare you for the day.
7. TruBrain Nootropic Drinks
This product was featured in The Joe Rogan Experience episode 629 where he interviewed the creator (Dr. Hill) of the product. It’s a great interview to listen to if you’re interested in the science behind it.
What I like about this product is that it comes in very convenient pouches. You can just put one in your pocket or handbag and have it ready throughout the day, whether that’s at work or training.
Scientifically designed to maximize your mental capacity, the company lists caffeine, L-Theanine, Centrophenoxine, and Magnesium among others.
The best time to take this product is first thing in the morning to get you over the morning hump.
8. Neuro1 Brain Performance Drink
This supplement was featured in episode 1234 of The Joe Rogan Experience, and it is another brain power stimulating supplement.
What’s interesting about it is that it was designed by former NFL player Bill Romanowski, who felt that his memory had started to suffer after many years of heavy hits.
By bringing doctors and neuroscientists together, he came up with a mix of vitamins and minerals that claims to improve brain functionality.
This includes L-Glutamine, which is an essential neurotransmitter that interacts between brain cells.
Again, it’s best to take these first thing in the morning or about 30 minutes before you know you need extra brain power.
9. Onnit Emulsified MCT Oil
This is a product that Joe has mentioned numerous times on his show. Essentially, it’s a non-dairy creamer that you can use with coffee and tea to give you a healthy dose of pure brain energy.
It’s mainly used by people who are focusing on a ketogenic diet, but it will boost your brain power no matter what diet you’re on.
The best time to take them is first thing in the morning with your coffee and Joe refers to this as his “rocket fuel.”
10. Onnit New Mood
I almost missed the mention of New Mood, but a good friend of mine mentioned it a while ago and referred me to episode 845. He talks about this specifically as a product to help boost serotonin levels.
The base ingredients are L-tryptophan and 5-HTP, which help to improve how relaxed you feel, which can really help you unwind and get better sleep.
The best time to take New Mood is later in the day or early evening, especially if you’ve had a busy and stressful day.
11. Kegenix Prime
This exogenous ketones product has been featured a few times on social media posts that Joe has added. It combines MCT and BHB salts to give you a maximum amount of energy.
When you follow the keto diet, your body will tap into fat reserves as fuel and produce ketones. This energy release is an ideal source of power for the brain and results in much more mental clarity.
By taking Kegenix, Joe Rogan achieves some of the ketosis benefits without actually having to follow the diet.
12. Shroom Tech Sport
Shroom is another product from Onnit, and as the name indicates, it’s made from mushroom extracts; more specifically “Cordyceps Sinensis mushroom, adaptogens, antioxidants, and methyl B-12.”
According to trial tests that Onnit conducted to compare results to placebos, they encountered significant increases in stamina and power for athletic performance at the gym.
It’s definitely worth trying out as a pre-workout supplement.
13. Onnit Protein Bites
Another regular feature on his Instagram feed is the Onnit Protein Bites. These are very tasty snacks that contain 7 grams of whey protein in each one.
They are great as a post-workout snack when you might be a bit hungry but want to avoid anything too heavy. They are also available in quite a few flavors, including chocolate cookie and vanilla almond.
Having a few of these in your cupboard will come in very handy on the intense fitness days.
14. Onnit Earth Grown Nutrients
If you follow his Twitter feed, then you’ll notice regular comments about how much attention he pays to so-called superfoods.
While you can adjust your food intake, sometimes it’s just easier to find a good supplement.
Earth Grown Nutrients is packed full of organic superfoods that will deliver a large selection of micro-nutrients from plant products. Added to that are digestion-boosting probiotics for improved gut health.
Taking these with your main meal will take a lot of the pressure off to pile a lot of greens on your plate.
15. Nature’s Plus Super C Complex
One problem with Vitamin C is that the body cannot store it. This means you have to constantly consume enough of it, and most people do this through some simple pills.
However, if you get a huge dose of Vitamin C with a pill you take once a day, then a lot of that could actually be wasted.
It’s a much healthier option to use a slow release supplement, and that’s exactly what Joe does by taking this Super C Complex.
Simply take one every morning with your breakfast and enjoy all the immune system boost you need.
There’s a bunch of different nootropics I use. I use 3 different companies, 1 that’s one of mine (AlphaBrain), and then 2 that are other companies; Neuro1 and another one called TruBrain
JOE ROGAN Supplements: Final Thoughts
Whether you agree with Joe Rogan’s political and social views is one matter, but there is no way you can doubt that he has created a dietary and exercise routine that focuses on total human optimization.
With hours spent in the gym and training martial arts, he knows full well that his body requires more than just energy.
And to keep his podcast and other social media channels as active as they are, he also requires a lot of mental fitness.
If you’re trying to balance the energy needed for the gym with the mental stamina for a busy workday, then stacking the above products will get you a long way there.
