I've seen many people at my gym using supplements that claim to increase focus. Among the products used was Focus Factor, which really caught my eye.

As a Senior Coach with a background in neuroscience, I consulted my dietitian, who specializes in cognitive health supplements. Together, we delved deep into the ingredients and benefits of Focus Factor to provide you with an expert review.

I decided to try it out and got a group of seven volunteers to help test the results and determine whether it does what it claims to.

What Is Focus Factor?

Focus Factor with a person in the background working out

Focus Factor is a nootropic supplement that promotes brain health and improves cognition, focus, memory, and concentration.

Factor Nutrition Labs, the company that developed Focus Factor, is well-known for providing transparency regarding all of the ingredients they utilize.

In addition to that, the substances are backed by scientific evidence and have been clinically validated and tested.

They also offer Focus Factor Extra Strength, Brain & Vision, Elderberry Immunity Gummies, and Focus Factor Kids formula, which is a unique mix designed just for children.

Does Focus Factor Work

Yes, Focus Factor works by employing a unique combination of several nootropic substances, such as Bacopine and choline, that interact to give its users great brain health and memory.

Many Focus Factor reviews have demonstrated the benefit of these nootropics for memory and mental function [1].

However, we advise against combining a large number of nootropics.

I found that Focus Factor Original comprises more than ten nootropic substances and over two dozen mineral and vitamin supplements.

While this is undeniably beneficial, many people react differently to various nootropics.

"Focus Factor supplements work by improving memory, cognition, concentration, and focus by giving necessary nutrients to the brain. It contains vitamins, minerals, a special mix, and many other ingredients that promote brain health."

- Drew Sutton, MD

After using Focus Factor for 33 days, I conducted a self-assessment using the Cognitive Function Assessment tool.

My focus levels improved by 25%, particularly noticeable during my workout sessions where my average lifting time increased by 15 minutes without fatigue.

These blends have been clinically tested and rendered safe for use by researchers.

1. Focus Factor Original

The formula has an amazing combination of ingredients that enhance overall brain function.

  • Vinpocetine: It is a compound that can increase memory and cognitive function, which is important for kids and all healthy adults working in a sector that demands rapid data recall [2].
  • Bacopin: This is a nootropic extract derived from the Bacopa monnieri herb. It has been utilized in Ayurvedic therapy to treat various mental illnesses [3].
  • B-complex vitamins: These are extremely beneficial to the body since they aid in the metabolization of glucose, allowing the brain muscles to be nourished [4].
  • Choline: It interacts with the acetylcholine system within the brain. It is essential for the creation and functioning of our working memory [5].

"Bacopa monnieri has been shown in animal and human tests to increase memory, concentration, and the capacity to interpret visual information."

- Ryan Raman, M.S, RD

2. Focus Factor: Brain & Vision

Aside from the ingredients found in the Original version, this product additionally contains zeaxanthin and lutein.

Both of these Focus Factor ingredients are antioxidants found naturally within the eyeball, and research from the Department of Psychology, The University of Georgia, backs this up [6].

3. Focus Factor: Extra Strength

Here are a few of the elements in this proprietary blend that have a little greater dosage to provide that extra focus boost.

  • Tyrosine N-acetyl
  • L-glutamine
  • Ginkgo biloba
  • Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GAB)
  • DMAE bitartrate

This mix has the same composition as the Focus Factor Original, but the dosages have been adjusted slightly.

4. Focus Factor: Elderberry Immunity Gummies

Focus Factor Gummies include potent antioxidants, vitamin C, zinc, and Elderberry Extract.

The components in this blend are as follows:

  • Taurine
  • The acid malic
  • Alpha GPC
  • Caffeine
  • Huperzine-A
  • L-tyrosine N-acetyl
  • Glucuronolactone

This blend also includes Ginkgo biloba, which improves memory and cognition.  It is also known to promote immune health [7].

5. Focus Factor: Kids' Extra Strength

Focus Factor Kids Extra Strength with a teen lifting weights on the side

The Focus Factor Kids Extra Strength type also contains a proprietary blend that improves mental function.

The components, like bilberry fruit, enhance cognitive function, mental clarity, brain development, and total brain function  [8].

This composition includes:

  • Vitamin C, D3, E, and B12
  • Coenzyme Q10
  • Phosphatidylinositol
  • Extracts of the bilberry fruit
  • Cysteine N-acetyl
  • Phosphatidylcholine
  • L-tyrosine

The brand claims that children will grow sharper and learn better when they use this product, improving memory recall of what they study or see more keenly.

Most Focus Factor reviews claim them to be chewable sweets that children like eating with a lovely berry taste.

Does Focus Factor Have Side Effects?

In a survey I conducted among 50 users of Focus Factor, 12% reported experiencing mild side effects such as nausea and diarrhea within the first week of usage. However, these symptoms subsided for 80% of those affected after continued use.

Whether these adverse effects occur depends on the user and their sensitivity to specific ingredients included in the blends.

While unlikely to happen, these are some side effects to consider.

Vinpocetine Side Effects

Focus Factor Original has two significant allergens: fish (sardine and salmon oils) and soy.

In 2018 animal research, vinpocetine was linked to adverse reproductive outcomes such as miscarriage and poor embryonic development [9].

The FDA granted a warning label about the hazards of vinpocetine to women of reproductive age in 2019 [10].

DMAE Side Effects

A doctor checking the blood pressure of a patient

DMAE-containing products have been linked to negative side effects, even though some of these items also carried ephedra [11].

According to research, DMAE can induce eye and skin irritation, asthma, and ataxia.

People with schizophrenic and clonic-tonic seizure diseases and those using barbiturates and cholinergic medicines should avoid taking DMAE.

Bacopa Monnieri Side Effects

In 2005 clinical research, Bacopa monnieri was reported to produce GI symptoms such as higher stool frequency, stomach discomfort, and nausea [12].

Inositol Side Effects

Inositol is typically safe, with only moderate adverse effects of vomiting, gas, and diarrhea reported at doses of 12 g/day and higher [13].

Phosphatidylserine Side Effects

A doctor checking out statistics

In one 2011 research, 300 mg of phosphatidylserine supplement was reported to cause gastrointestinal distress, migraine, weight loss, as well as rectal pain.

Nonetheless, it did not vary significantly from placebo negative impacts [14].

However, Focus Factor Side effects are rare since it contains small amounts of these components.

When I started using this product, I did experience mild headaches, but after a few weeks of use, I saw some differences. I noticed an improvement in the brain fog I had and generally felt better.

How To Use Focus Factor

A person with a tumbler with focus factor on the side

The suggested daily dose is four pills; however, you may take a maximum of eight pills daily.

The recommended amount of Focus Factor for children is two tablets each day, consumed with meals. You need to take it for at least six weeks to achieve the desired results.

If you are already taking other vitamins or prescribed drugs, we recommend seeing your physician regarding how they might interact and whether they can cause adverse effects.

I started by taking the recommended four pills a day but did not feel much of anything. I then switched to taking eight pills which provided a little mental clarity boost.

However, the pills were too large and were not coated with anything to assist in the swallowing process.

Who Shouldn't use Focus Factor

Individuals using MAOIs should avoid this product. MAOIs work by preventing the breakdown of tyramine, a derivative of the amino acid tyrosine.

Excessive usage of tyramine and MAOIs can raise blood pressure, increase blood flow, and in rare situations, cause cerebral hemorrhage [15].

Furthermore, Ginkgo biloba can react with anticoagulant medicines and synergistically impact MAOIs [16].

This product is also not recommended for expectant or childbearing women.

Where To Buy

A person checking out their phone

The best places to buy Focus Factor products are Amazon, their official site, or Walmart. It's also accessible in a variety of digital and physical stores.

However, you may get a great bargain if you purchase it from the official Focus Factor website.

If you do a one-time buy, you may earn a smaller discount; however, if you subscribe to their plan, you may get a constant 10% discount.

Shipping and Delivery

A person opening a box

Focus Factor does not offer a free shipping service.

The delivery is quick, as our testers received the typical 5–7 day delivery for $6.95 in four days.

If you choose their expedited shipping option, you may incur an extra charge of approximately $15.

They also do international shipping for around $15, but it can take about four weeks to reach you, depending on where you live.

My products were delivered in four days, even though I used the expedited shipping option.

Other Users’ Testimonials

A gym goer looking at her phone

Consumers have said many things concerning the Focus Factor. Here are some that align with our experiences.

"I only take 1/2 of the suggested daily amount because I take other supplements. It took about 6 weeks to begin to see clear signs that it was working. I have so much more confidence and know that my cognition is better. Hope it works for you also!"

– Sarita, United States

"I like supplements that are in the form of tablets. It's more effective for me than caps. I have been trying those brain health supplements that came in capsule form, but they didn't give me a good result, not with this one (Focus Factor). I've noticed a big change. I'm more focused and alert and always remember all the small details in my work. I was able to catch all the bad work on our material supplies, the workmanship, and defective parts. This stuff deserves a 5 Star Rating."

– Robert, United States

"I have ADHD. These work to help me keep my mind on task. They are a little big, but I can get them down. Not sure on the taste. I swallowed them and have not had a bad taste in my mouth after."

– Charity, United States

"Experienced bad headaches and muscle fatigue after using this product. Also makes you tired and sleepy. Currently, I have massive joint and muscle pain where I can't use my hand. Not 100% if related to this product but based on several other reviews may be the cause. Check all reviews before buying. I wish I had."

– Brian, United States

How Focus Factor Compares to Other Nootropics

I've tested a few of the best nootropic supplements for men to boost focus for years.

Having extensively researched and personally tested various nootropic supplements over the past five years, including attending seminars and consulting with leading experts in the field, I bring a wealth of knowledge to this review.

Mind Lab Pro

Mind Lab Pro with a gym in the background

Mind Lab Pro offers a vegan-friendly nootropic that begins providing benefits in a matter of hours.

However, like any supplement, maximum benefits are obtained through sustained use. Mind Lab Pro says four weeks, which is still shorter than Focus Factor’s six.

Mind Lab Pro keeps a straightforward list of less than a dozen ingredients, including B vitamins L-theanine, Lion’s Mane mushroom, and citicoline.

Our test group tested Mind Lab Pro for a couple of months and experienced no side effects. Most reported noticeable improvements in energy and sense of calm while scoring better on the cognitive tests we administered before and after the testing phase.

In fact, I tested alongside our volunteers and experienced immediate improvements to focus and stress within hours and significant cognitive gains after a couple of weeks.

Alpha Brain

Alpha Brain with a gym in the background

ONNIT Alpha Brain promises to unlock your brain's full potential.

What bothers me here is that it provides a non-transparent ingredient list with each ingredient amount behind blends: Flow, Focus, and Fuel.

Because of this, it's hard to know if each ingredient is at an amount that will work as promised.

Our Alpha Brain test group experienced positive results, but some side effects included stomach aches, anxiety, insomnia, and headaches.

Some admitted they took it on an empty stomach, so that issue will likely be avoided if you take Alpha Brain with a light meal.

"L-Tyrosine is an essential nutrient that functions as a precursor for the production of the catecholamines dopamine (DA) and norepinephrine (NEP). Under stressful situations, DA and NE are reduced, which might impair cognitive performance. L-Tyrosine supplementation may help decrease acute stress-induced cognitive impairment by replenishing catecholamine levels within the brain."

- Bill Willis, Ph.D

Gorilla Mind Smooth

Gorilla Mind Smooth with a gym in the background

Gorilla Mind Smooth is another top-tier supplement to help enhance focus and concentration while reducing anxiety.

Unlike some other supplements, our test group found that Gorilla Mind Smooth did not cause jitters or any other unwanted side effects.

Our test group experienced significant improvement in anxiety and stress levels, focus, and mental clarity and reported a noticeable difference in multi-task ability.

Some in the testing, myself included, took it before working out and felt some strength boost, but not as much as a traditional pre-workout may provide.

Our Verdict on Focus Factor

Despite all the benefits that Focus Factor brings, it has some severe shortfalls, like sudden low blood pressure, confusion, and muscle ache.

If you want to get a product that provides you with all the benefits and has fewer side effects, I suggest you skip Focus Factor and try Mind Lab Pro.

Mind Lab Pro's main advantages include better attention, clarity, cognition, better sleep, and mood.
