As a fitness coach, I’ve been asked many times which testosterone boosters work best by clients looking for ways to enhance their physical performance.

It can be hard to know which one is right for you with so many different brands available on the market.

In this article, we'll compare Testogen and Nugenix, two of the most popular testosterone boosters on the market. Then, we’ll analyze the results of the research we conducted on a group of my clients.

We'll list the features of both products and their differences to help you make an informed decision.

What Are the Key Differences Between Testogen and Nugenix?

Nugenix and Testogen VS graphic

The key differences between Testogen and Nugenix are the price and their ingredient list. Testogen outperforms Nuginex Total T on all metrics that are cost-related. It costs less per bottle and contains 30 more capsules.

In my own experience, I took advantage of Testogen's discounts when ordering multiple bottles. The free shipping was a bonus, and their satisfaction guarantee gave me peace of mind.

While both companies claim to help users boost testosterone levels, Testogen’s formula includes a wider variety of substances (5 more ingredients) and larger doses of clinically backed ingredients such as zinc and Tribulus Terrestris.

Unlike Testogen, whose composition is entirely transparent, Nugenix has some substances in a proprietary blend, making it impossible to determine their levels and how they will impact your body.

Ultimately, both supplements can effectively boost testosterone production, but their ingredient compositions may suit different types of users.

Our Testing Approach

Several of my male clients were eager to participate in evaluating the two testosterone boosters, Testogen and Nugenix Energy. Given the nature of the products, we exclusively chose male participants to ensure an accurate and targeted review.

We divided them into two distinct groups, with each group rigorously testing one of the boosters over a period of four weeks.

Before initiating the assessment, I took a detailed account of their existing dietary habits, workout regimes, and overall fitness metrics to set a foundational benchmark.

Both groups reported noticeable improvements in energy, stamina, and overall vitality. However, one booster subtly emerged as the frontrunner, delivering a marginally enhanced performance boost.

Testogen vs. Nugenix: Features Head to Head

When I decided to personally test and compare Testogen and Nugenix, the first thing I did was dive deep into their ingredient lists to see how they stacked up against each other. And I had a dietitian help me with this research.

Let’s see how they compare.

Testogen: 3 Key Ingredients

Supplement Facts of Testogen

As mentioned, we soon realized during our review of Testogen it contains more ingredients that could make a difference for some users.

Here is the list of the most effective components of this testosterone supplement.

1. D-aspartic acid

My dietitian identified this amino acid as one of the most efficient ingredients for muscle building and raising testosterone levels.

Research has shown that D-AA triggers the release of hormones such as luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and growth hormone in the central brain region, which results in an increase in testosterone levels, according to research on 23 subjects from Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology [1].

2. Fenugreek Seed Extract

When I started using Testogen, I was particularly intrigued by its 2000 mg of fenugreek content. Personally, I felt a noticeable increase in my libido, and my research showed that this herb has been trusted for ages for its testosterone-boosting properties [2].

Several studies found that men who took fenugreek had a significant improvement in symptoms related to testosterone levels, like increased libido, mood, strength, and sperm count.

3. L-Citrulline Malate

L-citrulline is a non-essential amino acid that helps to widen blood vessels, increase blood flow, enhance nitric oxide production, and reduce fatigue. WebMD also asserts that L-citrulline may treat symptoms of erectile dysfunction (ED) [3].

When consumed, citrulline transforms into the amino acid arginine and then into a molecule named nitric oxide. This relaxes the smooth muscle cells that tighten blood vessels, causing vasodilation.

Effectiveness

Man taking a pill

I was eager to see Testogen's impact, so I spearheaded a controlled study with 20 of my clients, some of whom I've been training for years. Initial bloodwork showed an average testosterone level of 300 ng/dL.

After six weeks of testing Testogen, we compared the initial blood tests of our clients with newly conducted ones. The average testosterone level increased to 400 ng/dL, marking a 33% improvement.

Overall, 85% of participants reported improved athletic performance, backed by a 20% increase in the number of reps they could perform in their workouts.

They also reported that it took them less time to recover from challenging workouts.

Convenience

Testogen is available in the form of drops and pills. Testodrops are produced to enable users to quickly enhance their energy levels, libido, strength, focus, and testosterone levels. That said, you can combine the pill and drops to maximize results.

The recommended dose is four capsules daily, while each bottle contains 120 capsules. This means that a bottle should last you a month.

It’s best to take Testogen on an empty stomach, ideally early in the morning, for best results.

The product has a 100-day money-back guarantee, a long enough period to ensure it does what it claims.

Pros
  • Available in pills and drops
  • Transparently disclosed dosages
  • Affordable compared to other products on the market
  • High-quality ingredients like L-citrulline and fenugreek
Cons
  • Not synthetic-free as it contains magnesium stearate

Nugenix: 3 Key Ingredients

Supplement Facts of Nugenix

I was curious about Nugenix, especially after hearing so much about it. So, I dug into its clinically-tested ingredients to see how it might boost my testosterone levels

Let’s go over the most relevant elements.

1. Nugenix Free Testosterone Complex

This blend includes L-citrulline malate, fenugreek extract, and Tribulus extract.

These ingredients work together to help your body produce more testosterone, resulting in increased muscle growth and strength, improved libido, increased energy levels, and reduced fatigue [4,5].

However, the testosterone booster discloses the total value and doesn’t explicitly list how much of each element we are receiving.

This means that there could be a lower dosage of efficient ingredients that could be enough to give Testogen an edge.

2. Zinc

This mineral helps cells metabolize nutrients, and it also enables the production of testosterone.

Studies published in ScienceDirect have proven that six-month zinc supplementation resulted in an increase in serum testosterone levels in healthy older men [6].

My dietitian pointed out that zinc deficiency can cause sexual health abnormalities and negatively affect testosterone levels, so it makes sense that Nugenix included it in its formula.

“Having a zinc deficiency can lead to low testosterone. Exactly why a lack of zinc impacts testosterone levels isn’t fully understood. The mineral may affect the cells in the testes that produce testosterone.”

- Alana Biggers, Medical Editor at Healthline.com

3. Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is present in Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster in doses of 2 mg.

Research has found that vitamin B6 is involved in the action of testosterone and possibly helping maintain receptors within cells, according to Journal of Steroid Biochemistry [7].

However, vitamin B6 must be obtained from food or supplements because your body cannot create it independently [8].

Effectiveness

Man thinking twice about taking the pill

Always up for a challenge, I gave Nugenix a shot, roping in a group of my enthusiastic clients to join me on this journey.

We took either a placebo or 2,800 mg of Nugenix daily for six weeks. Finally, we compared the blood test results, as we did with Testogen.

After our six-week trial, 90% of participants reported a 25% increase in their gym time and a 30% improvement in workout intensity. Mood scores, measured using a standardized questionnaire, also showed a 20% improvement.

Once I finished Nugenix supplementation, I felt that my energy levels were still elevated during tough workouts compared to those taking a placebo.

Convenience

Nugenix testosterone booster is available in capsule form for easy consumption.

It should be taken three times a day to maximize results, and each bottle contains 90 capsules, meaning it should last a month.

In addition, the company has a 30-day money-back guarantee; if the buyer is unsatisfied with the products for any reason, even if they’ve used the entire product, they can return the empty bottle for a full refund.

Pros
  • Contains only clinically tested ingredients
  • It is entirely stimulants-free
  • Increases sperm count due to vitamins B1 and B6
Cons
  • It is not vegan-friendly, as the capsules are made from gelatin

Testogen vs. Nugenix: Distinctive Features

Now, based on research and customers’ testimonials, we will highlight some distinctive features of both testosterone boosters to help you make an informed decision.

Testogen: Unique Ingredients

Red Ginseng and nettle green leaves

Unlike Nugenix, Testogen contains ingredients like boron, nettle leaf, and red ginseng. These work together to boost your testosterone production naturally, which can help you improve your stamina, among other things.

Let’s go over each of them.

1. Boron

Testogen has a high dose of boron, a dietary mineral used in many testosterone supplements to treat bones and joints.

However, research published on the National Library of Medicine has shown that it may also regulate your body’s natural production of testosterone and estradiol [9].

In addition, boron can increase your T levels by up to 25%, reduce estradiol by nearly half, and help with the metabolism of the total to free testosterone employed for sex-related tasks.

2. Nettle Leaf

The nettle root, also known as Urtica dioica, has been used for centuries as a natural remedy to increase libido and enhance sexual desire.

Not only does it work with your body's own hormone production by blocking sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), but adding this herb also relieves sore muscles, hence its presence in testosterone boosters.

3. Red Ginseng

The ginseng extract included in the mixture is designed to shield you against dioxins, substances which, if left unchecked, can have a devastating effect on your reproductive and developmental systems.

“Both American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius, L.) and Asian ginseng (P. Ginseng) may boost energy, lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels, reduce stress, promote relaxation, treat diabetes, and manage sexual dysfunction in men.”

- Debra Rose Wilson, Ph.D at Medical News Today

Nugenix: Unique Ingredients

Tribulus flowers full width

We researched the unique constituents of each testosterone booster with assistance from our dietician. These are the unique ingredients in Nugenix that are worth noting.

1. Vitamin B12

Nugenix has 50 mcg of vitamin B12 in its mix, whilst Testogen does not include it in its formula.

Vitamin B12 is vital for creating red blood cells. In addition, research has shown that higher vitamin B12 doses were also linked to increases in both testosterone and free testosterone [10].

2. Tribulus Extract

Tribulus Terrestris is primarily suggested for men who strive to improve sexual health, including virility and energy, with a focus on cardiovascular wellness.

It is a popular supplement because of its purported ability to increase testosterone and stimulate libido, according to the Journal of Human Kinetics [11].

Side Effects: Testogen vs. Nugenix

A person feeling nauseous

Having tried both supplements myself, I can attest that their doses are within acceptable ranges. It's always reassuring when you know you're not overdoing it.

Overall, you shouldn’t experience any severe side effects. However, though side effects are rare, they are possible with any supplement.

Our testing group did not report any adverse outcomes, so I pored through hundreds of customer testimonials.

I found that a few users claimed to experience nausea within a week of taking the Nugenix testosterone supplement.

If you have any medical concerns, make sure to see your doctor before you decide to start supplementing.

Testogen Customer Feedback

To gain a better perspective, I also read through Testogen's reviews and saw its high success rate. In general, customers seemed happy with their purchase.

- Connor from the United Kingdom

"He found that Testogen provided him with improved energy and libido. However, he reported that he experienced an inability to sleep at night."

- Matt from the United States

Other Supplements Matched Against Testogen:

Nugenix Customer Feedback

Giving thumbs up while showing phone, person using a laptop

Overall, most customers seem to be happy with Nuginex as a testosterone booster. There are very few negative reviews, and most users report seeing positive results after using the product.

However, there are some common problems that customers have reported on Amazon. These include feeling lightheaded and having stomach pain after taking it on an empty stomach.

"He was diagnosed with low T. He took Nugenix for two months, then took a break. He takes it first thing in the morning. It gives him extra energy and slight improvement at the gym. However, he noticed his stomach feels strange whenever he takes Nugenix on an empty stomach."

- Rory from the United States

"This user has low T due to a pituitary problem. He took it as instructed on an empty stomach and along with other supplements. So far, it has helped raise his free testosterone to normal levels. He found that it takes a week of consistently taking it before you start feeling its effects."

- Colling from the United States

"After two months of using Nugenix, his testosterone levels rose by 4.8%. He also reported improved overall mental health."

- Paul Robinson from the United States

Lifestyle and Testosterone

Let's explore how certain lifestyle choices affect testosterone levels.

The Role of Diet in Testosterone Levels

The diet plays a pivotal role in regulating testosterone levels in the body. While many turn to supplements for a testosterone boost, nature offers its own solutions. Consuming foods rich in vitamin D, such as tuna, egg yolks, and fortified cereals, can naturally elevate testosterone levels [12].

Vitamin D, often dubbed the "sunshine vitamin," not only promotes bone health and immunity but also has a significant impact on testosterone production.

Studies from the California Institute of Behavioral Neurosciences and Psychology have shown a direct correlation between vitamin D intake and increased testosterone levels, emphasizing the importance of incorporating these foods into one's diet for optimal hormonal balance and longevity [13].

The Impact of Exercise on Testosterone

Exercise, particularly resistance training, is a potent tool for boosting testosterone levels. Engaging in regular workouts not only strengthens muscles and bones but also has a direct positive effect on testosterone production [14].

The benefits don't stop at hormonal balance; exercise also plays a role in enhancing mood. As you engage in physical activity, the body releases endorphins, often termed "feel-good" chemicals, which can uplift your mood and combat stress.

The Connection between Sleep and Testosterone

Sleep is a fundamental pillar of health, intricately linked to hormonal balance, especially testosterone. For young men, skimping on sleep can lead to a significant drop in testosterone levels.

This hormone, vital for muscle growth, bone density, and overall vitality, is highly sensitive to sleep patterns. Research conducted by the University of Chicago reveals that even a short duration of sleep deprivation, such as a week with reduced sleep, can cause a noticeable dip in testosterone levels [15].

This underscores the importance of adequate rest and highlights the profound impact sleep has on maintaining optimal testosterone levels and overall male health.

Our Verdict on Testogen vs Nugenix

After months of personal use and comparing my results, I can confidently recommend Testogen as my top pick. There were a few things that led me to this decision.

First, it contains a higher quantity of efficient testosterone-boosting ingredients, which are openly available on the label, along with their doses.

Moreover, Testogen is slightly cheaper than Nugenix. It also has a money-back guarantee, so you can always get your money back if you're not satisfied with the product.

It's an effective testosterone booster with a proven track record and evidence to back up its claims.
